Dear Southland Sea Kayakers
Just a brief communication about upcoming events.
Tomorrow night, 17th March there is a meeting of the network at H&J Outdoor World, 27 Tay St starting at 7.30 PM. We will be planning kayak trips at this and also talking about the theory of surf launching/landings. This is an essential sea kayak skill and a prerequisite for more adventurous trips we will be running in the future. Vincent Maire has kindly lent us some kayak videos to show at the meeting.
We are running our Surf Launching/Landing course this Sunday 21 March starting at 10.00AM at Oreti Beach. We meet at the main entrance of Oreti Beach. Please bring the following:
- Kayak and paddle
- PFD
- Pump
- Wet suit if possible
- Helmet if available (not essential)
- Flask of hot drink/food
Mark Aplin is our instructor.
Mark advises we meet at Oreti Beach at 10.00am, This would give us plenty of time to have a briefing, some surfing, a rest and some more surfing! Lets hope there is some surf, if not we could take advantage of the rising tide and paddle down to the South then back up the estuary? The tide is relatively large at 2.8m, as there is a new moon that day.
There is no need to register with me for the course. Just turn up at 10.00AM on Sunday.
See you there.
Stanley
