Dear Southland Sea Kayakers
Welcome to our new members. We now have 60 members on our mailing list mostly domiciled in Southland.
There a number of events in the kayaking world occurring locally this weekend which may be of interest. I have also a number of trip reports included with this newsletter.
First Matt is organising an open day at the water ski club on the Oreti River this Sunday.
Canoe & Kayak Tryout Day
Outdoor World, Southland Triathlon & Multi-sport Club and the Southland Sea Kayaking Network, will be holding a Canoe and Kayak day:
- Sunday April 25th 9.30am to 3.00pm
- Southland Water Ski Club, Sandy Point
- B.Y.O Barbeque/Picnic Kids welcome
In addition there will be a SSKN trip from Bluff to Omaui on Saturday leaving Bluff at 8.30am and heading around the coast to Omaui. The distance is about 25 kilometres and the organiser is Stanley. You need to register with him by email to [email protected] or by phoning 2157263 him on Thursday night after 8pm.
On Sunday I thought I would organise a short trip In the New Estuary to coincide with Matt's Expo.
On Saturday last there was a Network Sea Kayak trip from Riverton to Omaui. This is the story.
Our committee is as follows:
Matt Sillars: advise on kayaks and associated equipment [email protected]
Terry Macnamara: network website [email protected]
Belinda Mulvany: social and evening meetings [email protected]
Stanley Mulvany: chairperson/secretary and contact person [email protected]
Mark Aplin: skills coordinator until June [email protected]
Kevin Pasco: skills organiser after Mark leaves [email protected]
Terry has done an amazing job with our web site and has posted lots of photos of our skill weekend so check it out:
sskn.uniformnz.com
Terry has done some more refinements to the web site. Under trips he has added a monthly event calendar. On this is listed events in red and clicking on it brings up the information about the event and who to contact etc . To add an event such as a trip, meeting email the webmaster or Terry who will place it on the calender.
Safe paddling.
Stanley
