Monowai Kayaking Skills Weekend
6/7 November
16/10/04
Dear Southland Sea Kayakers
The following is the programme for the Monowai Kayaking Skills weekend booked for 6/7 November.
Date : 6/7 November 2004. Course starts at 9.00 AM on Saturday at Monowai Holiday Camp but some may prefer to arrive on Friday night.
Course organisers: Stanley and Belinda Mulvany
Course instructors: Shared among participants
Venue: Monowai Holiday Camp, Monowai Village on the right off the Monowai Road half way between the Blackmount Road and Borland Lodge.
Cost: $15.00 PP per night for accommodation and approximately $5.00 for the use of Blackmount Pool
Registration by 1 November by emailing me.
Monowai Holiday camp has 1 self contained cottage and 8 cabins and tent
sites. There is a common room and cooking facilities. You need to bring your
own sleeping bags and food. I have booked the whole camp so contact me
rather than the camp ground.
We have actually got quite a lot of experience now locally so what I would like to do is to tap into this for the benefit of others. To this end I would like participants to volunteer to take some of the following sessions
Syllabus:
1) Equipment - Please take your kayak equipment along so we can discuss what
is useful/necessary. This includes safety equipment: Belinda
2) Practice self rescue and assisted rescue in the pool and in the lagoon/lake: Noel
3) Paddling techniques. Towing practice.
4) Demonstration of kayak roll: Tara
5) A paddle on Lake Monowai - trip planning and risk management.
6) Signalling: Stanley
8) Wellington Sea Kayak Network Pod Rules: Stanley
9) On Saturday evening there will be a briefing on the Preservation Sound Kayaking Expedition followed by a DVD on Kayaking down the Tsangpo River in Tibet, and a Sea Kayaking trip in Tasmania.
I would suggest we bring a plate of prepared food for Saturday night dinner so we can have a buffet style meal and get onto the evening entertainment promptly.
Lastly please register your interest with me now and if you can take one of the sessions please let me know.
